PSO Meeting Notes
October 14, 2024
Attendees: 16
Shana Thomas, Laura Roth, Emily McCown, Barb Stanek, Katie Gregston, Laurie Phillipp, Lindsay Pearson, Erika Powell, Megan King, Julie Keller, Emily Werner, Jill Elder, Laura Locke, Joan Vorhees, Megan Stranton, Stacie Dixon
The meeting began at 6:35.
The minutes for the last two meetings have been approved.
President’s Report: Presidents Forum Wednesday 9:30-11:00 am at the Annex. Sprit Wear orders have been delivered.
Principal’s Report: Homecoming was a success (besides the parade rainout!). This Friday is Senior’s Night. Q1 also ends this Friday. Lots of concerts this week. Fall activities are in their last week. There is a State of the Union meeting soon about district advancements. Seventy kids have signed up for the ACT prep course during zero hour. There will be another one in the spring. An 8th grade private school visit is coming up in October. College info night was very informative, especially for juniors. Veteran’s Day is 11/08 – any Veteran can attend, not just family members.
Staff Report
Treasurer’s Report: Concession money and Snack Shack is fluid money in and out. International night – not sure if that’s happening. The conference dinners went well. Activities Archway has been paid for. Teacher grants – received two so far- send them to Joan for approval.
Communication/Website: PSO website is up to date. Will add the PSO minutes. PSO Facebook was a public group, not a page. Shana made it a public page so it’s more visible: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567252888854 and also created an IG account https://www.instagram.com/rshs.pso/. Need to wear shirts to the next meeting!
Events/Staff Support: We are not allowed to give out gift cards per Rockwood rule. Trying to decide what else we can give the staff that’s impactful on a limited budget. Can we do vouchers instead (like movies)? Considering doing something like a free food truck that all staff can participate in. Or a gift buffet? Or people can donate gift cards if that’s acceptable.
Grade Level Rep’s Report
Senior Reps: Had their first meeting for Senior Slam. Have 30+ volunteers, including reps for each committee. Decided on crockpot cheese for the concession stand (more flavorful and less wasteful).
Junior Reps: Two concessions went well; pretzels were a hit. Savor the Flavor meetings coming up as well as another to talk about other fund raisers.
Sophomore Reps: Halfway through Stonies sales, seems profitable so far. Winter fundraiser is giftwrapping.
Freshman Rep: 4-5 flamingo flocks. Next concession stand is next week.
Committee Reports
Concession Stand/Snack Shack: New pretzel oven works great! There is a square reader in there now. Working out some issues with the reader. Refresher training is recommended for winter sports. Need to figure out a better way to communicate to the second half volunteers how to leave the stations for the next volunteers. There is a list and contact information if needed.
Spirit Wear: They were delivered today. They will do a restocking of the new design in the Snack Shack.
Old Business: no report.
New Business:
Holiday Party: Will do via text/email.
Talon Sponsorship: Treasurer will find funds for this; Laura will get Emily more info.
Fundraisers: Should these be kept with the class or put back in the general budget? Maybe a survey? Consider 1-2 events per grade level and then the rest is group profits. We could also get the students involved to see what they prefer.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:46.
Rockwood School District PTO meetings are reserved for district parents, community members and invited guests. If you are interested in speaking at a PTO meeting, please reach out to their executive board members ahead of planned meetings.
