ACT and SAT Exams

ACT and SAT Exams

Students who are planning to attend college after graduation should take the ACT and/or the SAT prior to graduation. Currently, all Rockwood students will take the ACT during the school day as Juniors and are automatically registered by the school. Registration to take additional ACT and SAT exams are done online through the testing agency's website (see below).

These exams are used by colleges and universities during the admissions process. Most colleges will use a student's highest score in consideration for admission and scholarships. Some colleges might "SUPERSCORE" (use the highest score from each subject to create a new "superscore" composite). During the admissions process, the requirements for the exams as well as document submission deadlines will vary for each institution. For example, some colleges might require the ACT or SAT with writing yet a highly selective college might also recommend or require SAT Subject Tests.

** Students need to be aware of application deadlines and if scores need to be sent directly from the testing agency or if they will be accepted with the high school transcript.

When Can I View My Scores?

Score reports are mailed home to students 6-8 weeks after the test date.  The high school also receives the paper score reports.  When students register for the test they can list up to four organizations to receive their test scores electronically from the testing agency.  Organizations that are listed at the time of registration like colleges/universities, NCAA, NAIA will receive the scores at the same time that the student and the high school do.  In many cases, students can view their scores online as early as two weeks after the test date.

If a student wants to wait to send their scores until after they have viewed them, official scores may be sent by the student to organizations by logging into their online account for the ACT or SAT and requesting the score reports be sent.  There is usually an additional fee.

Additional Pre-College Testing

Tests such as the PSAT are not used during the college application process and are therefore not handled by the Post-High School Planning Office.  All questions regarding those tests can be directed to Mrs. Jennifer Kottmann, Testing and A+ Coordinator, at kottmannjennifer@rsdmo.org or by accessing the RSHS A+ Coordinator website.
