Planning Timeline for Juniors
Register with SchooLinks at the start of any school year (Freshman - Senior):
SEPTEMBER
- Register for the PSAT test
- Sign up online through SchooLinks to meet with College Admission, Military and Trade School representatives visiting RSHS.
- Attend local college fairs:
- Visit the Calendar page for current information. Check back often as events are added regularly.
- Sign up for job shadowing through PIE (Partners in Education). This is a great way to identify or rule out potential careers/college majors.
- Register for AP exams (if applicable) by Nov. 8
- Visit the AP Advanced Placement Exams page for more information.
OCTOBER
- Sign up online through SchooLinks to meet with admission representatives visiting Summit.
- Attend local college fairs:
- Visit the Calendar page for current information.
- Take PSAT
- Start a list of prospective colleges.
- Start a high school resume.
DECEMBER
- Register for the February ACT and/or SAT at ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org
- Apply for Project Interface summer internship opportunity.
JANUARY
- Starting second semester, make an appointment with Mrs. Hartman’s at bit.ly/PostHSappointment to discuss college & career options.
- Start planning for college campus visits and look into summer programs on college campuses.
- Consider registering for the February ACT.
FEBRUARY
- Sign up for ACT or SAT prep courses
- Sign up online through SchooLinks to meet with admission representatives that visit RSHS
MARCH
- Attend College Planning Night | Wednesday, March 7, 2024 | RSHS 6:30-7:30PM
- An overview of the college process, testing and financial aid.
- Presented by Ivy Hartman, Post High School Counselor
- Sign up online through SchooLinks to meet with admission representatives visiting RSHS.
- Visit college campuses during spring break.
APRIL
- All juniors will take the district ACT at Rockwood Summit (during school) April 9, 2024 8:15am - 12:15p.m. (no registration required)
MAY
- Register for June ACT (ACT.org)
- Take SAT (double check to see if the colleges you are interested in require SAT II subject tests)
- Take AP exams
- Organize college information and narrow choices down (5-8 schools)
- Plan summer trips to visit campuses
JUNE
- Take ACT
- Visit campuses & understand that campuses are best seen during the school year when classes are in session.
- Attend a summer camp or academic program on a college campus.
