Planning Timeline for Seniors

Senior Meeting Presentation Slides (8/30/23)

 

AUGUST

  • Register to retake the ACT or SAT, if needed
    • Dates and deadlines for registration can be found at ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org.
    • Many colleges are test optional or test blind for admission but might require ACT or SAT scores for scholarship. Check each college website; be sure to know the requirements. 
    • Meet with Mrs. Hartman if you are considering applying to college without an ACT score.
  • Schedule an appointment with Ms. Hartman at bit.ly/PostHSappointment. Availability starts during the first week of school.
  • Use SchooLinks to search for colleges and request transcripts and other documents needed for your applications.

SEPTEMBER

  • Ac Lab Workshops | RSHS Library | Students sign up through Infinite Campus:
    • 9/7/23 How to Search for Colleges & Majors (Session 1)
    • 9/11/23 College Application Assistance (Session 2)
    • 9/13/23 Essay Writing Assistance (Session 2)
  • Register to take or retake the ACT or SAT, if needed (ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org). The September exam date will not be offered at any Rockwood school this year.
  • Meet with Ms. Hartman, Post High School Counselor, to go over applications or make a plan.
  • Attend local college fairs: 
    • Rockwood/Parkway College Fair 9/11/23 | Queeny Park 6:00-7:30pm | Register at StriveFair
    • National college fairs NACAC
    • Infinite Scholars Fair 9/17/23 | SLU 2:00-5:30pm | Register at Infinite Scholars
  • Begin applications for college. Recommend selecting reach, target and safety options for schools.
  • College and scholarship search using: FinAid, Cappex, Scholarship Care, Scholarships.com
    • Local scholarship applications for RSHS seniors will become available after winter break. Apply at My Scholarship Central.
  • Create or update your activity resume or list of activities, honors, awards. 
  • A+ deadline to apply is January 31st. Applications can be found on the A+ Office website.

OCTOBER

  • Senior Meeting (required) 10/10/23 | RSHS Theater | Ac Lab sessions 1 and 2
  • Ac Lab Workshop | RSHS Library | Students sign up through Infinite Campus:
    • 10/16/23 College Application & Essay Assistance (Session 2).
  • Continue to research schools, apply, and meet with Ms. Hartman as needed.
    • Make note of priority deadlines and complete separate scholarship applications for colleges (if applicable).
  • Attend college fairs
    • Visit the Calendar page for local and national virtual and in-person college fairs and webinars.
  • Ask teachers and your counselor to complete any required forms or letters of recommendation that are needed for your application, if you have not already.
    • Only ask if you absolutely NEED a letter.
    • If applying via Common App all students should list Ivy Hartman as their counselor. 
  • Visit college campuses and schedule interviews if needed or recommended. 
  • Register for AP exams at CollegeBoard. Pay for the exams through TotalRegistration.net.

NOVEMBER

  • Ac Lab Workshops | RSHS Library | Students sign up through Infinite Campus:
    • 11/6/23 College Application & Essay Assistance (Session 2)
    • 11/15/23 Financial Aid Overview (Session1)
    • 11/15/23 How to Find Scholarships & Tips for Applying (Session 2)
  • Register to take or retake the ACT or SAT, if needed (ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org).
  • Complete/submit “early decision” and “rolling admission” applications.
  • Ask teachers to submit letters of recommendation through SchooLinks (only if needed).
  • Request transcripts to be sent with applications 
    • Complete your FERPA permission in Scoir.
    • Students under 18 will need to have a parent complete the FERPA waiver section on SCOIR.
  • Schedule an appointment to review applications with Ms. Hartman.
  • Continue visiting colleges and searching for scholarships.

DECEMBER

  • FAFSA applications for financial aid will open for the Class of 2024 during December.
    • Due to the late opening for FAFSA this year, check with your colleges to see if they have adjusted their priority deadlines for scholarships. Historically, many colleges have had priority deadlines on December 1st.

  • Register to take or retake the ACT or SAT, if needed (ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org).
  • Continue scholarship search and applications.

JANUARY

  • Ac Lab Workshops | RSHS Library | Students sign up through Infinite Campus:
    • 1/18/24 FAFSA Completion (Session 1 and 2)
    • 1/31/24 How to Find Scholarships & Tips for Applying (Session 2)
  • Register to take or retake ACT or SAT in February (if needed) (ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org)
  • Continue scholarship search & applications.
  • Receive financial aid packages from colleges where students have been accepted.

FEBRUARY

  • Feb 1st is normally the DEADLINE for the FAFSA application to receive federal and state grant money. For the 2023-24 school year, check for updates at studentaid.gov.
  • Retake the ACT, if needed (ACT.org or CollegeBoard.org). 
  • Infinite Scholar Fair 2/25/24 | Harris Stowe University 2:30-5:00pm | Register in advance.
  • Finalize college applications or wait for admission decisions if your applications are complete.
  • Continue scholarship search & applications.
  • Submit and finalize financial aid forms to universities (if applicable).

MARCH

  • Review college housing information and submit.
  • Continue scholarship search and applications.

APRIL

  • Senior Scholarship Night 4/29/24 | RSHS Theater 6:30PM
    • RSHS Local scholarships will be awarded.
  • Receive final financial aid award packages from the colleges/universities you applied.
  • Receive final admission decisions and submit your enrollment deposit to the school of your choice.

MAY

  • National College Enrollment Day is May 1st.
    • Many schools will ask you to notify the school of your choice by this time.  
  • Send a notice to colleges you will NOT attend.
  • Complete scholarship search.
  • Complete Rockwood School District's Senior Exit Survey before graduation.
    • This is where you will be able to tell RSHS where your final transcript should be sent as proof of graduation. (Do not use the RSHS transcript request form to request your final transcript)
    • A link to the survey will be shared through ParentSquare and on the Post High School website.
  • Graduation! 5/11/24 at The Family Arena | 3:00PM

JUNE

  • Rockwood transcripts usually become available mid-June.
    • Transcript submissions to colleges will be completed by the end of June. (check status in Scoir)
  • If applicable, request your transcript to have college credit earned during high school transferred to your attending college. These credits do not show on your Rockwood transcript:
    • UMSL ACP college credits - Request transcripts directly from UMSL to have your credits transferred to your attending college.
    • Missouri State University college credits - Request transcripts directly from MSU to have your credits transferred to your attending college.
  • Send AP scores to your attending college through your AP account at apscore.org. These scores will not be on your Rockwood transcript.
